1988 85hp Force outboard

I am having trouble with knowing were the water is supposed to come out for the cooling on this motor. There are two holes on the back of the motor but I think they are for the exhaust. There is clearly some vents on the bottom of the motor for the water to come in so I got that much. Everybody I talk to says there is supposed to be a stream of water coming out of the side of the motor. Please help me out.

The two holes you mentioned is your water discharge.

Danimal<br /><br /> I can tell you I have a 87 125 Force and 96% of the water is expelled thru the lower unit. The two holes you see on the back of the motor is exhaust. You should have a spray of water coming out these holes. But Force motors do not have a stady stream tell tale on them unless you install one. I would if I were you install a temp. gauge on the motor it will tell you how hot your motor is running. It will take the worry you have of overheating away as you will always know the motor temp. ok so those two holes are the exhaust and some water should come out but not much at all. were does it come out of the lower unit at. And what is the best way to drain the lower unit and put new stuff in. I see two flat head screw bolts on the right hand side of the motor (drivers side). Whats the best way to go. Are these the holes I drain and fill.

The TWO upper screws are "Vent and Fill". The drain is a SMALL Allen Head srew at THE VERY BOTTOM of the lower unit. DO NOT TOUCH the recessed screw at the buldge on the right side. If you loosen it, you will have to completely disassemble the lower unit to RE-CONNECT the shift Mech. DON'T TOUCH IT...<br />Remove the two upper and allen head drain screws. After draining, replace allen head screw and fill thru "Fill' hole until oil comes out of "Vent"
