How hard is it to change the thermostat in a 1988 Evinrude 88HP?
The water stream goes from cold to extreamly hot every 5 seconds.
At low idle it contains some steam. The water pump was new 3 years ago but has less then 30 hours. The boat missed last season of boating so it sat for 2 winters here in CT.
Thanks,

John

Re: 1988 88 SPL Thermostat question

I dont think that is a bubbleback motor so It's not too hard. An extra set of hands wont hurt though. The tricky part is compressing the springs as you reassemble, then the housing needs to be held in place while you put the bolts back in. I have to do mine this weekend as well and its a bubbleback so I plan on having some help.

You will need two of them. Each controls the temp on one head.
