ok I’m doing some routine before season maintence on my 1988 9.9 hp Evinrude. Carb is out and disassembled. It’s the later model carb with the plastic top and plastic 6 bolt bowl.

my main issue is the main jet fixed into the main body that extends into the bowl and surrounded by that plastic thing. It doesn’t screw out and no one mentions it or shows how to get it out and I can’t find a part number. Or even see it in the diagram!

I did eventually remove it but I’m worried I damaged it. I have no picture or any reference to see if it looks factory. Let me know if you guys know what I’m talking about or have any tips. I did read through the whole leroy ramblng article...what a wealth of info... no main jet removal advice though

But the main jet is item # 23 and it is simply removed with a screwdriver.----Are you confusing a main jet and what is called the nozzle ????-----Not much goes wrong with these parts.----What is the issue with the motor ?

Yes sorry. The nozzle that’s fixed into the carb. It’s got ports so I’m Calling it a jet. I just wanted to clean the carb since I got the motor last season and haven’t done anything to it. Plus I feel sluggish on the top end

I do not believe that nozzle is available.----You may have to make one or search for replacement carburetor body.---Can not comment on the compression as there are different gauges and " armstrong " pullers are all different too.

If you decide to get another carb, the earlier version 9.9/15 carbs (all metal ‘74-‘87) will bolt right up. I am NOT a fan of plastic-top carbs.. oh - putting a 15 carb on your 9.9 will give you more wide-open power and still idle down nicely. Good luck!

Emulsion tube..holes on the side let air in to help vaporize the fuel. Its usually pressed in or held in with the main jet. Most float carbs have that...regulator/diaphragm carbs not so much.
