Hello all,
I am new here as well as a new boat owner. I just picked up a 1988 Bayliner Bass Trophy w/ a 125 Force. Bought it at a auction this past Saturday for 1000.00. Had no battery or gas in it. I bought a new Optima battery, filled it with gas and oil... So, now I have a few questions if anyone can help me. It had a ear muff for the motor (it was in the boat)but, it broke when I tried to put it on as the intake is on the gearcase behide prop and the muff was to small. Do I need a certain kind for this motor? Motor will turn over but I dont want to fire the motor up without water. Just trying to make sure the motor is running good. I was told to drain and replace the gear oil as well. I need to try and find a owners manual for the boat as well as a manual for the Force motor as well. Just trying to have a good boat to do some fishing and get my mother back out on the river fishing. I lost my father a few years ago and they fished all the time and she misses it very much. So, I bought this boat to get her back out and maybe I will even do some skiing. Anyone who can help me with this boat would be helpful. I also want to know who sales the best boat cover for this boat as well. whats the best trolling motor for this boat etc. etc. THANKS

For an owner's manual for the boat, go to Bayliner's website and locate their customer service phone number. They'll email you a copy....they're great about that.

I'd recommend the factory service manual for the motor if you can find one....ebay is your best bet. Until then, a Clymer's is a good fall back repair manual. Not as good as the factory Force manuals, but better than the Seloc manual by a long shot.

BTW.....which auction was it? I was looking at a few on auctionzip....think I saw your boat while I was browsing.

It was a farm auction here in South Carolina where they auction off what ever people have brought in. You said you saw my boat? I have tried to figure out how to ad photos on here. I found a sevice manual but it says its for Force 125 "A Models".. How do i figure out what model motor I have.

Where the motor attach?s to the transom on the right hand side there should be a sticker with the info on it.
When it says A or B model don't worry about that as its very small changes in some minor parts on the motor.
Change the impeller and change the oil.Make sure that you don't undo the screw on the side of the lower unit.It connects the shift linkage and will cause MAJOR problems if it's removed.See pics.1st pic is the NO touch screw. The second is the drain plug.
Any muffs that are round and cover the holes. You can duct tape them in place.Or the best is in the water.
This site sells things like covers and any accessories.
Watch out for ethanol.Go through the fuel system as soon as you can.J

So I assume a service manual that states "A MODEL" should be fine for this motor even if I have a "B" model motor ??? THANK YOU for the photo on the drain screws as well because a friend told me to drain and replace the oil but he said drain from the screw you said NO TOUCH so you saved me on that. would Lucus gear oil be fine to replace with?? Going today to pickup a new ear muff for the motor as well. How do i ad photos here. I would like to ad a couple photos of this boat.
