Ok, so I feel like an idiot even having to ask this. I have a 1988 Bayliner Capri with the OMC 2.3L I/O engine. I just got it and wanted to do an oil change and new plugs. Went and got all the stuff and ran boat for about three minutes on muffs. Pulled out dipstick which shows it has plenty of oil in it. I threw my electric pump down in dipstick hole and began to pump. It will not pull anything out!!! It is working I even tried on my new oil and it sucked it out of quart. There is oil all over line when I pull it out also. HELP! Can I not pump oil out with pump on this? Also, what are my other options. THANKS so much everyone. I feel like a complete newb with this dumb of a question.

Howdy,

If you're not using a small tube that will slide down into the dipstick tube, it's possible that your dipstick tube doesn't go far enough into the oil.

If you are using a thin rigid plastic tube in the dipstick tube, try pulling it up out of the hole a little after you "touch bottom" with it.

Done and done. The tube fits perfectly down in dipstick tube. I also thought the same thing of hitting bottom and pulling up. Still nothing. But the weird part is that the pump sucks oil out of my quarts fine so I know pump is ok and if I put actual dipstick in it has plenty of oil in it. Is there a way to drain oil from pan and get out of hull without making a huge mess?

My guess is that something is kinking the hose or plugging it up when you push it into the dipstick tube.

I cannot say about yours but there is usually a large threaded connection on marine dipstick tubes so you can connect directly to it without forcing a rigid tube inside.

If this doesn't work, you might try a different tube.

I used a drain hose connected to the pan drain on mine. You may not have a drain plug on yours (your dipstick tube might be using the hole)

Something is blocking/kinking your plastic tube.
