new to the forum and the boating life. we just got a 14' Capri w/ 50hp force. it's a slug! first time we had it out to the river the wife and I got it going 18 unverified. the motor is healthy but it seems like the boat is plowing water. after some research I think the prop is sitting to deep. can't upload a photo at this time. from the bottom hull to center prop is nearly 10" hull to cavitation plate is almost 4". I'm preparing to make a transom jack so any help would be appreciated

Put a straight edge next to the keel to the antivent plate.Bottom should be straight with the straight edge in contact pictures would help.
Disconnect and ground one plug wire at a time and see if it will run.
Does it respond to up trim?

Hull could be waterlogged making it a heavier combo, add unhealthy engine, prop hub is in near spun territory, pitch not suited to develop max wot rpm, engine/transom poorly height matched, among other issues. Probably previous owner liked the way it performed, was not a speed fan.

It came with an 11 1/2 prop was told the hub was bad so i got a new 10 prop. The performance was nearly the same. I'm going to move forward with the jack plate after talking with some guys from work I'm sure it's a problem. I wish i could post a picture for you guys to verify.

You mentioned it feels as if it is plowing water? Is the motor trimmed at the proper angle?
