Greetings,

I am new to this forum and I have a couple of questions. I have a 200hp 1988 Black max. First off, the trim and tilt bleads down slowly and I assume this is a faulty check valve. I have removed a handfull of T&T assemblies but have never torn one down. Does anyone have any diagrams, videos, or tips to help me out here?
Second, does anyone know where I can get a good shop manual for this motor?
Third, how reliable is this motor? I have heard mixed reviews. let me also say the VRO has been removed and I am running Premix 50:1

Thank you for taking the time to help me out!

Re: 1988 Black max 200hp

I found this the other day... http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/4594105-mercury-outboard-repair-manual-1965-1989--download

I havent tried downloading it though. I believe it is mercury shop manual either scanned to computer or from actual disks. Ive seen disks for it floating around on ebay also.

One bit of advice Ive learned from a couple old Merc Techs recently.... find your "spark advance/idle stabilizer module", unbolt it and throw it in the trash if the previous owner hadnt already done so. Take your boat to a tech and tell em you took off the module and you need the WOT timing set 22-25 degrees.
The tech set my 150hp to 23, your specs may be a tad different.

These are old 1980s computer chips that mess with your timings depending on how you are running. I wouldnt be suprised if your module also had freyed and corroded wires...this can cause a short and throw your timings sky high while you are running and blow your engine. Short of the story....your engine doesnt need it at all, so why take the risk.
