I have a evinrude that runs great at idle, but won't get up on plane, acts like it is flooding, I checked dva voltage on both sides of stator and get approx 170 volts, havent checked at high rpm.
can this stator be breaking down at high rpm, I have cleaned the carbs?
This motor has been extremely hot and the stator is leaking adhesive and the rectifier is comeing apart swelled up at the top of the potting material. HELP
replaced the spark plugs and checked compression and all is well there.

My 86 and 90 factory service manuals state that when cranking, stator volt output should be minimum 200 volts as measured on a "peak-reading" voltmeter. Anything under 200 comdemns the sator. My guess is that your 88 factory service manual probably reads the same. Your rectifier is part of the charging system-different from the ignition system. You've got a 150S model, which is the XP, high performance engine. It comes standard with the special high capacity 35 amp alternator with the vented flywheel. If you've got visible problems with that rectfier/regulator, I'd change it before you run the engine again. Those have been known to catch fire once they start to break down.
