1988 evinrude 175 stator

Do you guys know if the stator from a 1988 evinrude 175 can be rebuilt? If so what would I need to do it? Not trying to spend $700 on a new one.

Is that the big 35 AMP stator ?-----Have you proven that it is defective ?----Your location perhaps in Canada?----Good used ones may be available.

The stator is still working but it’s leaking from the coils down on to the timing base gumming it up. So I’m assuming it needs replacing.
