Hey all, i am new to boating and to this forum so please forgive me if this post is in the wrong spot. Ok i bought a boat with a 1988 Evinrude 50 hp VRO motor and we took it on a test run b4 buying it and it ran good. But after a few trips to my fishing hole i've noticed that its difficult to get it started first thing in the morning, once running it's has a very rough idle where the whole motor shakes like an S.O.B. while idling or trolling speeds. I figured this was cuz it probably needs a tune up and carb rebuilds. I have put 2 new plugs in about 2 weeks ago and it was still doing the shake n' cough on me. I took the missus out yesterday and it ran fine no probs at all (other than the usual shake n' cough), but we went out this am and the dang thing didn't even leave the dock. It wouldn't start or even attempt to start....how embarrassing, this is one of the busiest docks in the Kingston area. I tried for about 5 minutes to get it to start before loading it back up and doing the walk of shame. I guess my question is why would it run one day but not the next.
Yes it has fuel w/proper mix 50:1, primed it up, & choked it while starting (btw it is an electric start)
Im stumped so any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
Brad
New information
I checked the spark, and there is sufficient blue spark on both plugs/wires, also did a compression test and both reading were about 145psi with maybe 1 or 2 psi difference if any at all.
