1988 Force 125 Hard Starting and stalling! Too much pressure?

Hello, when I try to start up the motor, the starter motor has a very hard time to turn over the motor. The motor used to spin very easy but has been getting harder to turn on for the last couple of months. I have a new battery. Why is there so much pressure in the cylinders? You can hear the air coming out of the 2 carburetors when I try to turn over the engine by hand, is this normal? Also, the motor will not stay running unless I give it full throttle, but even with full throttle, it has no power. Has anyone experienced these problems? The motor was running great last month and this month has just not been a good month.

Starter could be a dirty or loose connection on either the battery, starter or starter solinoid. New battery could also have a bad cell however chances are the starter or connections. If you remove the spark plugs will starter spin the flywheel easier?. Poor running sounds like a bad cylinder or no spark to a cylinder. I would have compression test done first then do a spark test.

Yes, when I remove the spark plugs, the starter spins the flywheel much easier. Also, how do I adjust the timing?

I had that happen on my 125 this summer, it turned out to be a plastic part that connected the throttle arm to the trigger mechanism, it broke off, so the trigger wouldn't advance the timing when I moved the throttle. I ended up just making one out of a piece of metal so it wouldn't break again.

have you checked the compression?

timing:

timing light on #1 cylinder, disconnect plugs so you don't actually start motor, bypass the neutral switch, have someone turn key to use starter to spin motor and check timing adjust as needed to spec, my 1989 125 is supposed to be 30 degrees above TDC not sure if yours would be the same.

don't let your plug wires arc against anything

remember when you spin the motor by hand to only go in the direction it is supposed to spin so as not to damage your impeller

Well, I did a compression test and it does not look good:%. Cyliner #1 & #2 are at 135psi, cylinder #3 is at 110psi and cylinder #4 is at 25psi. I also noticed a little bit of water in cylinder #4. Do I have a blown head gasket?
Thanks,
Rich

I had same compression problem on #3, turned out to be a piston blown up.

go to this site and ask the question, give all info about your motor, year, size, model, etc.

I am in a complete rebuild now, hope your problem is easier

Gonna have to pull the head off and take a look.

Nothing to lose at this point.

BeverlyHH,
You would get better responses by starting your own thread for a new question.

To answer your question, you should probably use the NGK BUHW plugs, these are the ones that I was told to run in my 88 Force 125 and it runs great with these plugs. They are a surface Gap, so you don't ever gap the plugs. They come set the way they should be.

Hope this helps.
