Over the july 4th weekend while running in the bay the drive shaft decides to break. We were able to flag someone down and get towed to the marina. The owner of the marina dropped the lower unit and confirmed it was the shaft. I took it to a repair shop were I live and he had a shaft from a used motor in the yard. I was reffered to him through a boat shop were I live, they said he was familiar with the force motor. He had the boat for a few weeks waiting on parts. I picked up the boat in time to take it down to shore for the Labor day weekend. I pulled down the ramp and put it in the water and the wife pulls away with the trailer. I had no reverse so we end up loading it back up and pull it in the marina yard. The owner again comes over and said it might just be an adjustment, as he was looking at the loinkage he notices green gear lube coming from the lower unit. He said he could take it apart and look at it but after paying $ 1,500.00 to have it fixed we agreed I should take it back were I had it fixed in the first place.
I guess my question is, what should I expect from him, and what do you think he messed up to cause this? I will try and call him today and see what he says. I don't know much about outboards so I'm concerned he could say it was nothing he did that was wrong. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
