So i just got this motor its a 1988 force 35hp model number 357y8b. Very clean seems well kept. For the life of me i cant make it run and i believe the culprit may be wrong wiring. I have already cleaned the carb and confirmed that i am getting spark. I am getting gas to the carb but not sure about past that. Anything anybody has ideas tips guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you brendan

Why do you think the wiring is wrong?
If you got spark and the carb has fuel then it should run if the fuel mixture is right and the spark fires at the right time.
Are the spark plugs wet or dry?
If dry then check the carb and clean it again, then check the reeds.
If the plugs are wet then check the flywheel key and the fuel pump diaphragm.

Some of the wires weremt connected to there corresponding terminal on the engine. I csnt find a wiring diagram of my motor either. You ssid check the reeds.
A little bit more I do not know what you are talking about thank you for your help

If you can post pics of the ignition system I can send you a factory electric diagram.
Think the 35Hp in that year had three different ignition systems.
Magneto, battery and CDI ignition.
The reeds are kind of check valves for the fuel/air mixture at the crankcase.
The reeds are stainless steel pedals and they are mounted between the carb and the intake manifold.
If you remove the carb and look into the intake manifold you will se them mounted in V-blocks.
