Model 507Y8C - Overheat alarm went on. The grease in the lower unit was contaminated with water. Should I replace the waterpump kit and gearcase seals? ~$40 vs $12. Any manual pages available showing schematics? Any ideas welcome.

The water in the lower unit didn't cause the hi-temp horn to sound. Get a manual for tha thang and replace the water pump while repairing the l/u.

c/6

Hooty

Hooty,

Already ordered all the parts. The impeller and unit looked good. Did have some sand sucked in and blended with the grease/oil. It was THICK!

What is the best manual available FAST! I bought the boat used - NO DOCUMENTS. Where else could the cooling system be blocked/damaged/contaminated????

The boat is a 17' BlueFin and only goes 20 MPH with new prop and stabilizer (stingray). Is this what should be expected? It sucks fuel FAST!

You have a seal failure, so order a complet seal kit.
Seeing how you have SAND in the l/u, I would go out on a limb, and say main propshaft seal. But you will want to install new seals all around.
Also, if the impeller is older than one year, cjange it while you are in there. Impellers look perfect in every way...Until they fail.
For further assistance, click the link,
Everything you wanted to know about lower units and seal failure.

NAPA auto parts has after market service manuals.
Also listed at the bottom of this page,amazon.com
area bookstores,ebay etc.
If there is sand in the lower unit there may sand
in the cooling system.May be a good idea to open it up and look around.
I would guess your boat would run about 30mph
with one person on board.
Check to see if you are running on all cylinders.
Do a compression check.
If it was mine I wouldnt put to much money into it unless you really love it.
The Force is an orphan and is pretty low on the list as far as performance, reliability, and resale value.
Some folks swear by them and others swear at them.
