Having problems when full throttle, when i idle runs fine, its only when I give it a lot of throttle the boat bogs down and shuts off, I noticed the fuel bulb collapased so I pumped it
till it was hard but think I flooded the engine took me a few minutes to start back up. after I started back up the boat it was running rough shaking for about 10 minutes, then started to even out have I flooded the plugs out? I have new gas 50:1 mix? Could it be a vent problem? it ran fine going slow. when I got it home I started it out of water with the muffs, and when i went to go start it up it backfired and started. sounds strong. cant figure this one out, can anyone help, dont know to much about outboards

Thank Jeff

Welcome to iboats. Good newz...Fuel bulb collapsing means everything is ok at the engine..You have a problem with the fuel tank or fuel line.
Loosen the fuel cap.If the sympton goes away, it's the tank's vent. If not, the strainer at the bottom of the tank's pickup is plugged,or the fuel line itself is plugged...Like suckin a milkshake thru a paper straw.

12Footer - Actaully I had the exact same problem when I bought my 93 120 Force. The fuel pump would go flat and the boat would run rough, and not get up on plane.
My problem was neither the fuel line or the tank. It was actually a quarter sized whole in the diaphram of the fuel pump. It made the engine pull nearly 6 gallons in a half mile. It was pumping so hard it pulled the ball flat every time.
It did reassure me the fuel pump worked though. :D
JMRRICH you might want to just check that too. It is a quick check.

Why did it cause mine to collapse then?

think I would look at the tank and hose/bulb first. When you know that part of the fuel system is clear, you can get into the more interesting stuff.

Re: 1988 Force 85hp fuel problem

I just acquired a Force 85 (1986 I think) and had similar problems. Replaced the fuel tank, bulb, fuel lines and problem still exists. Choke solenoid is faulty, so I started with starter fluid and manually throttled the engine. Reset the carburator idle screws (one full turn out from soft seat) and problem still exists. Preparing to decarb and then change out plugs. Plug wires look rough, someone even tapped the 90 degree bend. Other messages have said these never wear out, but I am suspect. Changing plug wires requires changing coils also, I think. Any comments are most welcome.

Also, where can one get parts for this engine?

PapaFisher

p.s. The Model Number on the tag in the engine compartment is 856X6M, and the Serial Number is 2856. According to the SELOC repair manual the serial number syntax does not match. Any comments?
