Hi all. I'm new to the forum, but hoping to find some good info here. I'm assisting a neighbor in repairing his new (very used) bayliner. The problem we are having is in disassembling the motor from the transome. The motor is a 1988 Force 85 hp model 856X8B. We are trying to remove the tower from the front motor leg cover; we've removed the lower (only) tower bracket, but can't seam to get the tower rod to drop from the upper part of the front motor leg cover. Are we missing a retaining clip, or pin, or some other device holding the tower rod up? Any help would be most appriciated.

Are you trying to drop the lower unit or remove the engine from the boat?

We're trying to remove the tower from the engine to replace it. We've already removed the engine from the boat. The threaded bolt holes used to store the engine in the raised position have been broken out, and we would like to either replace the entire piece, or have it welded and re-tapped.

Just checking again to see if anyone has taken apart the tower from the front motor leg cover, and how it was done.
