I have a 1988 force 9.9 that is overheating. First time it happened I was 500 yards from the launch and when it happened I dropped anchor and fished for a few hours then had my friend tow me back. I started it up to check the water flow and it was fine and ran fine the rest of that day and the following day and I figured I must have had some sort of blockage that cleared. Then the next morning it overheated again.
I dropped the lower unit and checked the impeller (it was fine - only a year or so old) and connected a garden house directly to the tube. Initially I had very little flow out of the telltale but within a minute had two solid streams so I was hoping I was all set. Turns out I wasn't set since it overheated again.
One thing I did notice while running the garden hose was that there was water coming from somewhere other than the tell tale but I couldn't see well enough to identify where it was coming from.
Should water be coming from somewhere in that area or is it a closed system and I have a hose loose or damage somewhere?
From what I have found in my research there is no thermostat for that year / serial number.
Any thoughts on how to proceed??
