We are averaging 2 impellers/summer in our motor. I've followed the instructions here to replace them. It started overheating again his weekend, I would guess maybe 20 hrs on it. The engine is an '88 35hp. model 357F8B. It looks like the bottom side of the impeller (I think it's the bottom) is a bit torn up w/grooves in it, not sure if this happens before or after it gets hot. The vanes look fine. What should I look for as the cause of this?

Lack of water for proper lubrication, or damaged housing is all I can think of? Did you grease the impeller lightly before you installed it? If you run it dry at all, you run the risk of chewing it up quickly.

X2 on the above. On your next replacement check the surface around the pump housing and try to smoothen it out as much as possible, like glass if you can using fine grit sandpaper or even crocus cloth.

Assuming you are not running it dry, then it is a bad pump housing or a missing lower (or upper if it is supposed to have one) stainless plate.
