1988 force tilt/trim pump problem

My pump was working fine before I swaped it over to a new motor, after hooking it up on the new motor only the trim piston works. You can hear the motor/pump work but when the trim piston has reached its limit it just stops, can't even hear the motor run. I can reverse the trim back down and up, but again every thing stops like its hitting a wall when the tilt piston is expected to engage. Took it to a pro boat mech they felt it might be the tilt piston. After reading all the similar posts I think it might be the pump? I do know it is not a line reversal or fluid problem. Does the selco book show the break down so I can rebuild the pump? Thanks

Re: 1988 force tilt/trim pump problem

I'll take a shot at this and this is purely conjecture. The same pump is used on a few tilt units. Actually the motor and housing are the same and I believe the lines connect the same. But I've seen them on Trim/Tilt units on Chryslers and on Tilt Only units on Johnnyrudes. They could have different pumps even though they look the same. Did you replace the pump/motor assembly, or install one of those new motor/reservior units I've seen?

Thanks for the reply, I installed a motor/reservior unit, my old pump fit right in, but as you know did not work right.
