I have an inboard Cobra 120 that is overheating. All the shops are backed up a month, so thought I'd ask here.
Starts and runs great, but the motor overheats after about 4 minutes. I noticed a 1 inch tube sticking out under the motor outside the hull with a hose clamp on it. Looked up into the motor and see a small plastic fitting where I think the hose should go, but can't seem to get it back on. Is this the intake for the liquid cooling? If so, isn't this hose low enough to suck in water, so the motor should not be overheating even if its disconnected?

I attached a picture.

Thank you, Bondo. You were right. Runs like a charm now ...... and cool.

Wasn't easy though. Looks like a poor winterization job from last fall. Hose did not reach ..... seems like an extension is missing. So, I had to add a section .... tough to get in there. But problem solved.

Ayuh,..... Make sure it don't kink, 'n cut off the water flow, when trimmin' up or down, or turnin' lock to lock,.....

I am having the same issues with mine, same year and also a Ford. The only exception is that when the boat is in half throttle she starts to cool down. It only heats up when standing still. I took the outer pump on the stern drive apart and it all looks good. I even started the motor when I had it all apart to check to see if the shaft for the pump was turning, which it was. I have purchased a new water pump and thermostat, and all the caskets but don't want to touch those if I don't really need too.

It seem as though I have water flow when moving just not when sitting still or "trolling speed".

Any suggestions would be a real helpful as I am stumped right now.

Welcome aboard dishdude: this is technically a hijack :pirate:

Better to start your own topic and we'll discuss your boat there. When you start your thread, mention when the last time the impeller was changed. You can also check to see if you're getting water flow by disconnecting the hose going into your thermostat housing to check flow.
