Hey Guys and Gals, I took my Tri toon out last week and had to be towed back in as my steering neck broke on my motor, I was told that it is easier to replace the mid section, than it is to replace the neck and shaft, since the power head has to come out, I cant find any info anyplace on the mid section removal, however this is what i cam up with, make sure motor is stabilized on winch or what ever you have, Remove two upper bolts from steering neck, and 4 lower bolts, I,m good with that and it makes sense, Does anyone have any input? P.S. what do i do with the shifter rod it seems that in order to get the mid section out the lower needs to be dropped....Thanks in advance....

If you know how to work on things it really isn't an impossible job to replace that unit. I just did mine on an 85, 115 hp! I bought the entire unit at a boat salvage yard for $100. Had to pull the engine and buy new lower motor mounts (located under the 4 bolt plates on the midsection) which were expensive!! Had one bolt break and had to drill it out but still got the job done in a day once I had the mounts!!

Ok what is this unit by it self called? I had a stuck bolt but after beating the crap out of it and grinding it i got it all out Just to find out that the one i got from the salvage yard has a thinner neck on it so It wont work... The one on the left is the new unit i picked up the one on the right is the Original... Thanks

You can have a look at the factory exploded parts diagram to see what you are getting into. Check this website: epc.brp.com and look for your year engine, then hp.
