I am looking at this motor and the seller says the compression is;
Port; 75, 75, 75
Starboard; 75, 70, 70
Also says boat was winterised several years ago, not used since and would need plugs, carb clean.
I asked why the compression was so low he mentioned that was the way Johnson built them those years.
I cannot tell you how or when he did the compression test.
Do the numbers/compression add up?
Darn thing is perfect for my boat renovation but do not want to jump right into it without some of you guys help and knowledge.

Those numbers are fine for that outboard, KC. Seller was correct.

Agreed, mine was 85 on all after a re-ring job. So not worries.... Good to go!

Wouldn't hurt to test with another compression gauge....just to be sure.

Guys,
Thank all of you for your responses!! Makes me feel a whole lot better now. You are the best!
Ouch....have go and write out a check now. I really wasn't sure what your replies would be but you gave me a great comfort level with the purchase. The engine does look sweet and it comes complete with tilt, harness, wiring etc. Perfect fit for this old goat boat I'm working on.
