I am relatively new at purchasing an outboard motor. I am going to look at a 1988 Mariner 40 HP, oil injected, power tilt, and electric start. The carbs have just been rebuilt and freshly tuned including LU oil changed. The price negotiated is $650. First is this reasonable price for this motor? What should I be looking for in this particular model? Would this be made by Mercury or Yamaha? Any other info would be great. I will be bringing my compression tester and checking that, what should the psi be at?
