1988 Mariner alarm

I have a 75 hp Mariner that I just purchased. I put it on the water for the first time yesterday and the throttle control beeps constantly from start up to wot. After reading prior posts it sounds like an oil or overheat alarm. The engine puts out a good stream of water and there is plenty of oil in the tank. There are 2 tan wires coming out of the bottom of the oil tank. Would disconnecting either or both stop the problem or is there something inside of the oil tank I should check first?

I have exactly the same motor and had the same problem. After determining that everything was working properly, I decided to simply disconnect those tan leads you mentioned that go to the oil level sensor. Beeping went away and all is well. This is a very common problem for our motor and is discussed in many forums. I would recommend adding oil to your fuel tank at 50:1 until you are sure the oil level sensor is the culprit. To test, simply disconnect those tan leads to the sensor while the motor is running and beeping. If the beeping quits, then its the sensor. The magnet attached to the oil level sensor float inside the tank is notorious for disconnecting itself and is the main issue. It cannot be repaired and you would have to replace the tank to fix it (or just run without a oil level sensor like I am). If the beeping does not stop, then it may be the warning module itself. Turned the key to the on position and it started beeping. I disconnected one of the wires wires and it stopped immediately. That was it! Thanks a bunch.
