Hi all,
I've searched for info here, but am coming up empty. If this question has been answered elsewhere already, my apology.

I've got a 1988 Merc 115 inline 6 which seems to lose power intermittently at high RPM. I suspect it's dropping a cylinder. At times, it runs hard wide open, then seems to drop off and slow down, then back to high speed. Its got fresh NGK plugs and the wiring from the switch boxes and high tension leads look pristine.

In addition, the tach doesn't work and I've traced it back to the main engine electrical connector inside the front of the motor compartment. The connector is BAD. If I wiggle the connector in a certain way, I can make the tach come to life. Anyone ever see this? The problem is, I can live without the tach, but if the connector is intermittent on more than just the tach pin, then my confidence in the whole connector is shakey. Any recommendations on cutting out and replacing the connector? I'd also be very interested in seeing a schematic (wiring diagrams) of this motor. If anyone has a diagram of any type, would you forward it to me?

Thanks All!!

Sean in Nebraska
kzcrazy99@hotmail.com
