Hey guys. New here so not sure if I'm in the right place or not.. Sorry if I'm not. Have a 1988 Larson lazer dc180 with an omc 4.3 in it. Not wanting to start. Checked voltages and everything seems fine. Has good spark at each plug and seems to be getting fuel(sprays into carb when throttle is worked) but won't fire up.. Have tried pouring a very small amount of gas(half a soda bottle lid) directly into carb in case it wasn't getting enough fuel. Gave a very small shot of starting fluid and still didn't even cough. Turns over great, seems to have good spark and seems to be getting fuel but just won't fire up. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

welcome aboard

points or electronic ignition?

your motor needs 3 things to run. compression, spark at the right time and fuel at the right time.

what is your compression on each cylinder?

how do you know your getting spark at each plug?

Got it running by the way.. had a problem with the choke spring(what I call it) being adjusted too tight. re adjusted to spec and fired right up... but now, I have another problem.. not wanting to go past about 3000-3500 rpms, on cold or warm engine.. have replaced plugs, wires, fuel filters, and fresh fuel as general maintenance. my first inboard also.. got the boat about a month ago. ran it a few times on the water.. seemed great the first time with plenty of power and revving up. took it out a second time and started stumbling a little bit if I pushed the throttle farther than what it would be at 2500-3000 rpm. tried adjusting carb and didn't seem to change anything expect maybe a couple hundred rpms higher according the rpm guage. bought it back home thinking I may have got some bad fuel. drained it all and flushed the lines the best I could and changed filter once again.. still the same even running it on a hose without a load on it..

I hope that gives a little more info to my new problem.. like I said, I'm new here and don't really do the forums but figured it'd be great to give it a try.

Pulled carb off and cleaned it. Wasn't that dirty to start with.

Was a hit and miss when it would start to stumble. Pulled distributor cap off and had a wire that was almost in two. Spliced it temporarily to see what it'd do and picked up rpms pretty decent but still has a little sputter at higher rpms. But splicing the wire thst was almost in two helped a lot. Took it out to the lake to try since its fairly close. Ran good until you started hitting about 4500 rpms and stumbled from there up. I'll pick up a new cap and rotor and try it. Almost positive that's my problem
