1988 OMC runs hot... any suggestions?

Replaced impeller, thermostat seems fine, any other ideas? Owned the 1988 Thompson Carrera for about a month - no other issues except that it runs slightly hot.

I' m trying but my psycic advisor is out now. (jokeing) what engine? what stat did you put in? and what is hot to you? have you checked the power steering cooler? pull the hose off the inlet side and check for weeds or debries.

I know, I'm sorry for the lack of details. I was just seeing how good you guys really are!!!
It is my boyfriend's boat, and I didn't have all of the specs. It's a 5.0 L. He had the tstat out and was told that it was fine, so replaced the impellar.
I've read the other postings and printed them out for him, they were a big help. Today he is planning on testing the flow for obstructions, etc...
I'll tell him about the power steering cooler and ask him about the exact temp.
All I know is that when he shows me the gauge, it's not quite into the red part!!

I'm getting up to speed pretty quickly with the terminology, and appreciate the help! (and so does he!!!)

does it overheat at all speeds IE Idle, 10-15mph, 20+? We just fixed our overheating problem on our 88 2.3 omc. Turned out to be in the lower unit. Where water comes up the intake into the water tube. The water tube and grommets were out of place.

I was wrong, it only runs hot at high rpm's. As far as exact temp is concerned, the gauge doesn't have numbers... it's almost to the red.

It does not run hot in the driveway, hooked up to muffs.
thanks again for the help!

Her post's headings says "OMC", which would have been a Cobra by 1988.

Here's an update..
Tried all of your suggestions, all clear. Ended up borrowing a little "gun" to point at engine to tell temp, and it's not running hot after all... (160 degrees). Turns out it's a "wiring gremlin" as I've heard it so delicately put.

Replaced 2nd battery to make sure that it wasn't the culprit, and now suspect a bad ground... any suggestions? The temp gauge and the oil guge are both off.
