Hey, I have just purchased a 1988 Sunrunner from an estate sale. The floor below has a little give to it at the bottom of the steps. I'm planning on recarpeting the inside. I plan on gluing down plywood, and then maybe covering the wood with fiberglass before I carpet. Will this stiffen up the floor? Is there another way to go about this type of project? Any help would be great! Thanks Al Kelley

If the floor feels soft or spongy, I'd bet my paycheck (and I make respectable wages) the wood in the floor is begining to rot.
The only fix to this is to rip out the old and replace.
If you search on this forum under floor replacement you'll find out about all you need to know on this subject.
I know because I'm in the process of collecting the materials for a floor replacement project on my 1988 19' renken.

All true, Soft floor translates into rotten stringers below. Rotten strickers translates into fiberglass cracks in the hull in a very short time depending on how rough you drive the boat. Get the book, Runabout Renovations...This is all covered...

I replace the floor from console back and replaced the stringers all in about two weeks of part-time effort. (Lot's of things had to dry out to proceed)

Good Luck, it's not as hard as it first seems and it goes fast once you start putting it back together.
