i was on the water two days ago and when i was docking my boat wouldnt slip out of drive. took off back cover and had a broken cotter pin, replaced it and it shifted perfect. now put back in the water and now it will only run at 2500-3000 rpm and if you let off the throttle at all it just dies. ive had it in the water a dozen times already this year and this problem just popped up. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. it is carburated.

Which carb does the engine have? It sounds like it needs to be taken apart and cleaned. It's easy to do. Once apart use an air supply to blow all the holes in it in reverse direction. I had the same problem with aq151b Solex carbs and doing this helped with starting and idling. Do not let the gaskets dry out or it may want to leak once you put it back together. Work fast and should be OK.
