how much oil should i buy for the lower unit. (how much does it hold)

My 1999 115 Johnson holds about a quart and a half...I buy the Penzoil LU oil sold at Advance Auto. Get a pump for the top of it, screw it in the bottom fill hole (have top out-vent) pump till you see it start to come out the top hole. Install vent screw, then put in bottom screw...use new gaskets each time...check for leaks... HTH

The small gearcase (13 spline) has a capacity of 26 ounces.

The large gearcase (15 spline) has a capacity of 33 ounces.
