1988 Wellcraft 200 Classic

My boat has the OMC 5.7L 350 in it and there is a hole where I believe something is missing but cannot determine what exactly. Any help would be appreciated.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,...... I believe that's the block mount for a dipstick tube,.....

If unneeded, a silicone coated, I believe, 3/8"x short bolt makes a perfect plug,....

How can I tell if it is unneeded? If unneeded how would the bolt stay in as a plug because there are not any threads inside the hole?

Ayuh,..... Don't you already have a function' Dipstick,..?? Why would ya want 2,..??

The bolt will stay in place from gravity, 'n the adhedsion of the silicone to the close fitting hole,....

There's No pressure, just splash,....
