Hey guys...new here but from what I can see here lots of good knowledge to learn here. I have a question about the transom on my Boat. I have climbed around in there and have found absolutley no wood in the transom. I have a 150 horse Mariner on the back and there are some cracks appearing. There is a piece of aluminum angle across the back of the boat the width of the transom that I am assuming isnt stock. That part appears to be fine. The cracks are appering along the part the has three hole in bottom and allow water to drain from transom. Any ideas? Transom junk or can it be solidified somehow??

Have you tried any core sampling of your trans ? 1/8" drill bit going about 3/8 " deep on the inside of the transom ?

Got pics ?

Also the cracks appear at top where it begins to angle down to drain holes. There are not cracks on exterior in the rear or on the interior. The crack does not flex or move when motor is raised or lowered. If yo ujerk real hard up and down it does begin to flex slightly on the wider crack. thought maybe just becaiuse 150 horse motor so heavy. The cracks do not extend past aluminum angle that goes long the top. Is that an aftermarket job? Is this transom junk? fixable? overhaul, or couple hours in garage...Im a true Noobie guys!! Thanks for your help!

I did the core samples and they appear to be ok. Drilled 4 holes of different hieght and all wood was uniform in color and dry. Possibly just need to fill cracks with filler? Boat was sitting unused outside for two years before I bought it. It's wierd I raise and lower motor and crack doesn't move but if I push down on back of boat near crack it does?
