My tilt sensor works if I push it up and down by hand but it takes a lot of effort to move it. If I take it out will I be able to free it up with lubricant? Does it come apart? Is there a spring inside that makes it come up? It has a little arm sticking out that looks like it should attach to something, there is nothing there to attach it to ????

Keep me posted, my father-in-law have the same problem.

I have put a lot of creep-oil/rust eliminator (CRC 5-56) on it, it won't free up.

Inside there is a variable resistor that measure the position of the lever. I guess its that resistor that have corroded and got stuck/hard.

There is a spring in it, my problem is that the friction is far to high for the spring.

The plastic almost cracks when i force it. I have been told that the only way to fix it is to buy a new one.

There should be like a small plastic spindel at the end of the lever, this is the part that gets pushed by the engine when it tilts down.

My other problem is that one of the screws holding the sensor in place is stuck and won't budge, so I can't remove it. I guess I could trash plastic casing but since my nature is more like trying to fix it I really would like to be able to give it a try.

Mine was starting to stick so I removed it and worked it back and fourth spraying plenty of WD40 on it. Eventually it freed up and has been working fine since.

Mine moves but is stiff. I plan to pull it out tonite and soak to try & free it up. It is a pretty expensive part at about $30, not that it is a crucial part but I hope I can save it. I like things to be right!

The little arm simply rides (assuming you have spring tension) against the moving part of the engine as it tilts. It is not "connected" to anything.

Years ago I would have said why screw around - it looks easy to replace and how much could it be, but I've learned my lesson - the throttle position sensor is about the same thing (just a glorified potentiometer) and that set me back $180 when I needed one.

I now have a new rule of thumb for parts from Yamaha. Think of the most outrageous sum it could possibly be, then double it! You'll probably still be low....

Pulled unit of and removed the arm & spring. Kept soaking with CRC and moving back & forth, got it free and smooth, works like new, thanks.
