Hey, new to the forum bit, but I purchased an '89 Sunbird Corsica 175 at an auction. Pretty clean boat. Noticed that apparently the engine had been rebuilt, but the gear on the auxilliary shaft was chewed up. Replaced it, timed it, and took it to the lake for test ride. I've retimed, set jets according to manual. Runs good in driveway and in water, but has no power. Doesn't seem to wind out. Sort of boggy. Myself and 3 small kids in boat. Claims 128hp. Is this just not enough engine or is there some problem. I feel it should have more power than it does. Tubing/skiing is out of the question. Trolling maybe? Does anyone have suggestions? Please help. Mechanically capable, but new to boat engines.

What's the aux shaft you're mentioning?

Boat engines are very picky about propeller size and pitch along with outdrive ratio. If those are way off, your boat will have a hard time motoring around.

What does your propeller say on the inside of the hub? Should be something like 14.5 x 17 or similar.
