My motor (1989 35 hp Merc) came with hydraulic tilt/trim with which I now have a problem. It will neither raise nor lower the engine. When I press the button to raise or lower the engine, all that happens is a click which sounds like a solenoid activating. No hum heard at all. I have checked the oil level and added 1 and 1/2 oz of oil, and I cleaned the two wire terminals. Still nothing. Can you help trouble shoot my problem? Can the motor be checked by just connecting one of the two wires to a 12 volt battery or will this cause another problem?

G'Day.First check and clean all your battery connections. Does this motor have solonoids or relays? If it uses relays try tapping them when someone operates the switch. You can wire the tilt motor directly to 12V. If the motor has 3 wires then put the black wire to battery negative Blue to battery positive . if nothin happens then the tilt motor has problems. If the motor has 2 wires put one to positive the other to negative. Good luck

The Tilt/trim has two wires one blue the second green. The blue is for up the green for down. The negative is the grouding of the unit itself. There are no relays only solenoids.
