1989 40hp merc. firing on 2 cly? need test info.

[smells like old liver!]

I've got a 89 40hp merc. only firing on the top 2 cyl. looking for info on how to troubleshoot. also seems not to be getting very much fuel..

If you swap the 4 wires on the switchbox, red to red white and blue to blue white and retest for spark, if the spark went to 3 and 4 you have a bad stator if it stays the same it's the switchbox
