Marina currently has the top off the stbd motor. It's my contention that there was an error on the winterization last fall. The motor wasn't mixing oil and gas then although it was running poorly. When I asked for an update from the service department I get this response...Engine has been taken apart, intake, exhaust, and head. No obvious reason for water in the cylinder. This is an old problem that someone has had before and with signs that this has been taken part before. Still searching for possibilities.

What possible ways are there for water to enter the cylinder?

On a centerrise system cylinders 3,5 and 2.4 are prone to water ingestion from a gasket issue or a hole in the riser
a bad head gasket
a leaking riser to manifold gasket
a hole in the riser
cracked head from an overheat, especially under the exaust valve seat

Verdict....cracked head. Question...could improper winterizing cause the head to crack? Not that I'm going to win that argument with the marina.

Yes. As could a serious overheat, or running the engine without water, or .....

Good luck with that...
