1989 50 hp stutter?

I went fishing with a friend and his 89 50hp will act like it doesnt get enough gas intermittently. can be at idle or 30 mph, when this happens if you push the choke in for a second it goes right back to running fine. He said it never happened until after he got gas a week ago. He thinks he got some bad gas. I recommended he put some seafoam in it. He has records from every year since new of service and maintenance.

What do you think is this a sign of bad gas or ? I am thinking about buying the boat but want to know this is not going to be a real problem.

It could easily be some bad gas, or just a coincidence. Drain the float bowls and see what comes out, then run it again and see what happens. He may need to clean the carbs, but don't worry, its easy. Also check for an air leak in the fuel line.
