Hello,

I have a 1989 60 HP Johnson, it runs great, but after I stop for a while the fuel bulb goes soft, I have to pump it for what seems like eternity, probably 50-60 times before it will go hard again. I can hear air somewhere, but not sure if it is just pumping air into the carbs on the engine that I am hearing. Not sure where to begin with this, I am mechanically inclined, but dont have a lot of experience with outboards.

Thanks!
Bryce

bad bulb. air leak in fuel line. once the motor is started, the bulb will soften, as the fuel is drawn thru it is normal, but the hose should stay full of fuel.

Sounds like an Attwood hose assembly from Wally World...air leaks and bad check valves.

tx1961whaler, could you elaborate on what the "Check Valve" is?

Is this the one way valve in the bulb?
Thanks

Yes. I and many others have had issues with 3rd party fuel line assemblies and connectors. This is one case where it is better to go with the factory parts.
