just recently when i fire up my motor the alarm will go off. It is a beep every half second or so. Then I will shut it off. I then turn the key but not start the motor and the alarm will sound in the same way. Now, I can get the alarm to shut off when I start the motor and prime it while it is running. I have a good telltale and have no problem starting. Once I get the alarm to shut off I can jump on plane and run with no problems, meaning the alarm will not go off at all while running. But the next time I start up the same thing will happen again. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Todd

I think I've seen that before. Did you replace the warning horn lately?
Did you restart the motor immediately after it was stopped or did you wait a longer time?

No I did not replace the warning horn lately. I have restarted just after stopped and waited and the alarm still sounds.

Just got done playing around a little bit under my dash on my warning horn. I did not even start my motor at all. I turn the key and get the normal one beep. Then I started playing with the tan wire going into the horn and after shaking it a few times the alarm went in a rapid beep every 1/2 second or so. Could it be a faulty warning horn or a wiring problem or should i still be worried with my vro pump. To note, last summer a few times when starting and in idle i would here the horn randomly beep in no pattern at all.

Hmm ... strange. Normally the 1/2 second beeps come from the VRO. But the VRO needs tach pulses to produce this beep frequency. First disconnect the oil tank sensor and try again. The next step would be disconnecting the VRO.

If it is something associated with the VRO pump you can disconnect the signal to the system by pulling the plug and trying it. Easy enough to replace the VRO with a standard pump and run 50:1

If i disconnect the oil tank sensor and start it the motor runs fine and alarm does not go off. I cant replace the vro with standard because I run a 9.9 4 stroke kicker off same tank and use that motor 90% of the time for trolling. I marked the oil tank and I am getting oil to the vro so im lost.

OMC had probs with the sensors in the oil tanks. You might have one of them if you disconnect it and no more probs.

When I bought the boat a few years ago the warning alarm did not have the tan wire hooked up to it and I never had a problem. Just this past winter I did a serious revamp of my boat and electrical system and found the loose tan wire and hooked it up. Ever since then the warning horn has been acting up. Wondering if I should just pull the tan wire off and just pay attention to oil levels in tank and make sure its pumping oil.

Hey,
I was getting the same problem today just running the motor on muffs
i have had it in the past and i just gave the vro tank a shake and it stopped. Seems like the sensors are a bit funny as there was half a tank of oil in there.
My VRO is semi disconnected and i run pre mix so i am not worried about low oil but is the only sensor in the tank or is there another one in the pump that we would need to look at?
Cheers

Any chance that you have an air leak in the oil line? All hose fittings tight? The oil line sight tube full of oil?
