1989 85hp force

first time with a outboard.my question is after I prim the fuel bulb,should it stay hard while running.when I start mine it seems the bulb is soft,I wasnt sure if that is normal.thanks

No it won't be hard while running as the gas is being pulled through it by the pump.It should retain its shape and not collapse.
It gets hard when you squeeze it with the motor off because the carb(s) fill and the float valve cuts off the flow.
