Sorry it this appears twice, fist post said I was not authorized even though I was signed in?
Problem: As the subject line states.
What has been done: Using a spark gap tester, set to a gap about 1/2 what should be a good gap test. No spark on all three cylinders. Removed the stop wire on trigger box to eliminate any problem with control wiring, mercury switch, and anything else which would ground this pin. Still no spark. Removed the two wires which go to the rectifier to ensure nothing in that circuit is shorted. Still no spark. Measured resistance of trigger and stator windings, they were about what is listed in the troubleshooting guide. Next measured the voltage coming from the stator and trigger circuits while cranking engine. I used a standard digital VOM which does not have peak detection. The guide voltages list the peak values which would require a special peak detector HOWEVER the values I measured at cranking speed are close to the values in the guide. Keeping in mine the peak values would be higher. I next measured the voltage to each oh the three coils, that was 0V on all three which would explain no spark. I could see one even two coils shorted causing this but all three? For what it is worth, I called the person I purchased the motor from who emphatically stated the engine ran fine just a week before he listed it. It was shipped across country, but if something got loose, I think I would detect the problem with my above troubleshooting. The logical step would be to buy and install a new trigger module. Any other ideas??

I had an '02 of that engine which was basically the same and used the same service manual. Looking at the service manual, there is a peculiar routing of the triggering circuits through the modules, sorta like having them in series. Any interruption in this line would kill all the triggers best I could tell.

Look up my history in the archives and look for my comments on DVA which is my explanation of the high voltage, sample hold circuit used to look at the peak value of triggers. I'm too lazy to go through it again, twice is enough.

Mark;
Thanks, looked up the mentioned article and I will be making trip to local Radio Shack to get the parts so I will have one in the future. Will not need it this time since as my trouble shooting suggested it was a bad module. Installed new unit got the spark, put everything back together and engine fired up.
I am a happy boater until the next hole in the water which needs me to pour money into it appears.
