My distributer is very hot and when it gets hot it runs rough above 1500 rpm.before I replace the senser cap and rotor.any other reason for this to happen.

Sounds like bushings are trying to seize on the shaft. Maybe it can be disassembled, cleaned, polished, and lubed. I have a 1988 AQ271 and did this a couple of years ago. Freed up the advance weights as well. Hope this helps.

This engine has a senser, and will heat up with the engine off and just the ignition key turned on.

ok I just flipped my ignition sender/module over and its plastic sealer shows sighns of over heating (brownish dark dis-color)where the leads go in. Volvo #855910 replaced by 8854077 $365 any after market ? and also all of the wires first go to the coil, all + and - .If the sender controls the coil why do the + and - supply gang up on the coil and split to both at the same time. has it been wired incorrectly ?

I have looked at pertronix ignition replacements seems they are mostly aimed at points type systems has anyone used one on the vp prestolite electronic distributor? Can it mate up with the metalic gear ? Will there rotor fit over it ?

you can pull the distributor apart and oil the bushings.

I see that you have the same sticker shock as I did with the stock Prestolite distributor and the volvo-only module. also, if you loose an advance spring, those are no longer available.

your module was wired correctly. the ignition module gets its power from the point at the coil. the ground trigger for the coil comes from the module. the other wire on the - side of the coil is your tach. you should also have wires running to the overspeed module mounted on the transom.

FYI - a new mallory or pertronix distributor with adjustable weights and advance curves is only $279 and that is the route that I will be going.
