Re: 1989 bayliner capri 2.3L omc- camshaft problems
Back to the top.
I have a similar question and want to know the answer.
I have a Flat Cam Exhaust Lobe #4 of my 88 bayliner capri with OMC 2.3L SOHC and thinking of putting on a Ford Ranger 2.3 SOHC Roller Cam 4 plug head from a 85-89 Ranger. Rebuilt heads are available from $320 and up. Seems like a good swap to me and I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. Sure the roller cam isn't a "marine" cam but I'm not so sure the cam gind in the current motor is all that special.
Provided deck and piston clearance is sufficient,
You coud be right it may be a good swap.
Marine flat tappet:
I believe marine cam lift is 0.2381 +/- 0.005, 1.64 rocker = .390 valve lift
Ranger Roller Cam spec.s:
Cam Lift (Intake):.216"
Cam Lift (Exhaust):.216"
Valve Lift (Intake):.355"
Valve Lift (Exhaust):.355"
Duration at .050" Lobe Lift (Intake):189 Deg
Duration at .050" Lobe Lift (Exhaust):186 Deg
Valve Lash (Intake):Hydraulic
Valve Lash (Exhaust):Hydraulic
