Hello everyone. I decided to start this post to document the restoration I'm starting on my first boat. I purchased a 1989 Bayliner Capri 16' for $500.00 on Craigslist, with the Force 50 motor and Escort trailer. Not bad I suppose. The guy selling it said he just replace the oil in the lower unit, new impeller, and the motor needs a head gasket and a prop. The interior was pretty much removed when I got it, but all the pieces are accounted for to use as templates. The floor...went much like most of the other posts here. one soft spot to whole floor. Oh well, what do you want for $500.00? The stringers and transom are confirmed good (by drilling). Anyway, thanks for all the great advice on this forum. I've read tons before removing even one screw, and have found the the numerous discussions on PT vs marine, foam vs no foam, and poly vs epoxy informative, if not entertaining....
Now for the fun part
The attached pics will show the before pics, and some of the demo. I will continue to post pics and updates as the project progresses. As of today, all interior is removed, rotted floor is removed, had to cut out the bow seats to get the floor out. The plan is to replace as it was, except for the addition of side storage lockers on the port and starboard sides behind both seats. the only original parts will be the stringers, transom, and the anchor locker.
As I said earlier, I have read a lot of posts on this subject, but have not seen any of this Bayliner model. Any suggestions or advice would be gladly taken.
