I am the owner of a 1989 bayliner project boat that does not want to run with the hood down. I have read all the posts about exhaust leaks so I am not ruling that out ... but ... there is a blower switch on the instrument panel but I am not seeing anything that even remotely resembles a blower (fan-ish looking I am guessing) in the engine compartment. I think my engine is suffocating due to lack of fresh air. What do I need to get to fix this? A bildge blower? and if so, do I need one pushing fresh air in and one sucking out? Help please :D ... btw ... she did awesome yesterday at the lake on our first "official" test drive ... of course it looked like we were parasailing with the hood up lol.

Blower is strictly to vent the engine compartment before starting. To be sure any stray gas fumes are cleared,There should be a vent to let air in and an exit vent with a hose from the low portion of the bilge.Very important to run the blower for a few minutes before attempting to start the motor.
If your motor won't run with the cover on you have an exhaust leak.
Blower needs to be hooked to the exit vent.

ok ... it has a vent on each side of the boat, one has a hose, but it's going straight acrossed to the engine section from the vent, so should this be relocated to the bottom?

Also ... what's my best bet on a starting point looking for an exhaust leak (well my son-in-law's best bet), I am the trouble shooter, he is the grease monkey lol.

Thanks!
