well first off i recently purchased a 1989 bayliner capri w/85hp force. very clean boat so i thought. after i finally got it running took it out a few times only to notice i was taking on water very small amount but still a few gallons after a few hrs on the lake. appears that the transom is rotted which allowed the motor mounts to dig into the fiberglass and crack it. looking for any info and pics that may help with transom repair. i would really like to restore the boat and make it like new again without paying someone im a do-it-urself person.

Sounds like a good candidate for a poured transom.

poured transom?

Yes. There are a couple products: SeaCast, Nidacore and Arjay. They are a composite product that you pour into the transom cavity after digging out the old wood. Allows for a transom replacement with minimal boat destruction. It is expensive. Do a search on here for SeaCast and you'll probably find some thread about it.

1364,

The Nidacore gets my vote if you go with a poured transom. Easy stuff to work with and way cheaper than Seacast. The Hazmat shipping is high though. I paid $132.00 for 6 gallons and $113.00 to have it shipped from FL to WA. state.. They have great tech support, and were very helpful overall. Check their website.

The Capri line generally were not constructed with an inner and outer fiberglass skin. They usually have about 1/2" thick outer fiberglass skin and then the plywood. So once the plywood is removed, there is no inner skin so there is no void to pour seacast into.

Take a few pics of the inside of the transom. I take it with the 85hp motor this is a 15-17' Capri, no?

Cool. The recommended rotted transom removal tool (believe it or not) is an electric chain saw.
