1989 chaparrel 198xl

this is my first boat, and am excited about it. only prob is i dont know a whole lot about em. for one thing, we were drivin in the marina for about 35 min, then the motor died out. so the guy selling it to me tried to start it up, but to no avail. it sounded as if you would turn the keys in the car then would almost turn over. after 20 min the boat started up again. the engine sounds beautiful, the acc work and everything. does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be

Battery and or alternator, poor connections maybe? Must be one huge marina to be in it for 35 minutes running around?

thanks for the reply. does a water pump that circulates the wter throught the motor, have anything to do with this. and if so how much does that cost to replace

Did it overheat?? What engine and outdrive does it have? Pretty sure it's not your problem..
I am unsure what the labor where you live is.. Here it is $90 to $120 a hour.. Hence my boat gets repaired in the driveway and the garage.. I only go to the dealer to sit in the new stuff..

make, model, hours on engine? wouldn't mess with the water pump unless you have temp issues after you replaced impeller. almost guessing a leak in fuel line if it was trying to start lack of gas?

Yeah I never do well with those it sounds like post... I thought he got the dead battery sound.. Carry on
