I have a 1989 E150STLCEM
I replaced the kill switch and lanyard because I was told by a mechanic that it was bad. Since then, it will start when the lanyard isn't in but it will not when the lanyard is on. Could I have reversed the wires somewhere?
Next question, I hooked up the oil tank yet do not know where the wires should go and they are not shown on the wiring diagram in the service manual.
Last but not least, how can I tell if the quick start is functioning?

It almost sounds like you got the wrong switch, did you get #585134?

Sounds like you have a switch off of a stern drive. Especially if the leads were purple.

You should have a black wire with a yellow tracer and a solid black wire going to that lanyard switch. You should have a tan(brown) wire in the engine wiring harness which will go to the oil tank. That tan wire shows as a stubbed out wire next to the 3 wire VRO plug in the factory service manual. That tan wire is conntected to the overheat sensor circuit. The (other) black wire from the tank goes to ground.
