I had my boat out on the lake for some family fun yesterday and had some problems. We had to get towed in after 4 hours of problem free skiing. The engine woudn't start, and wouldn't stay running, even after a jump from a neighboring boat. Luckily they towed us in.
The battery appeared to be dead. This is a new starting battery, as I thought the battery was the problem and recently replaced it. Something must be draining my isolated starting battery between uses. The trolling motor batteries are isolated, but what could be draining my starting battery. When doing an inspection, on the water, we discovered that one of the spark plug wires had worn to the point where it came unhooked from the distibutor; could this be a drain on battery power? It ran great all day and when we packed up to leave, I started it up fine, put it into reverse, backed away from the beach and put it into forward gear and thud. It died and acted like the battery didn't have enough juice to start it back up. It would turn over when we jumped it from a neighboring boat.
Any help you could offer or suggetions on service would be great!
Thanks a ton, David
